FREDERIKSTED — A St. Croix man was arrested on domestic violence-related charges after he allegedly choked his girlfriend during an argument, authorities said.

The case began at 7:58 p.m. on April 27, when 911 dispatchers got a report of an assault in Estate La Grange, Frederiksted, according to the VIPD.

Officers were dispatched to La Grange and interviewed the victim, who stated that she was strangled by an acquaintance, Kinoro Hopkins, police said.

Members of the Domestic Violence Unit were assigned to investigate this matter and made contact with the victim who stated that Hopkins came to her residence uninvited, according to police.

The victim asked Hopkins to leave, but an argument ensued between the two and Hopkins “grabbed her by the throat restricting her airway,” police said.

On May 1, 2025, at about 4:00 p.m., Hopkins was present at the Wilbur H. Francis Command Police Station where he was advised of his Miranda Rights.

“Hopkins admitted that he went to the victim’s residence on April 27, 2025. He also admitted to putting his hand around the victim’s throat,” VIPD spokeswoman Kishma Chichester said.

Kinoro Hopkins, 22, was placed under arrest for Assault in the Second Degree-DV.

No bail was set in this matter as per the territory’s domestic violence laws.

Hopkins was booked and processed. He was transferred to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections at the John A. Bell Adult Correctional Facility in Golden Grove.

The suspect appeared for his advice-of-rights hearing in Superior Court at Kingshill on Friday.
