Man charged with DUI following two-car crash in Mon Bijou

KINGSHILL — A St. Croix man was charged with impaired driving following a two car crash in Mon Bijou early Saturday morning.

John Vidale, 65, was arrested and charged with driving while under the Influence of an Intoxicating liquor and negligent driving causing an auto collision, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

The charges stem from a 1:27 a.m. incident in which patrol officers were dispatched to an auto accident on Midland Road near the Mon Bijou stoplight, according to the VIPD.

Responding officers encountered two vehicles involved in an auto accident, police said.

An investigation into the auto collision was made and it was determined that John Vidale
was at fault. according to the VIPD.

Vidale was administered three Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus Test, Walk and Turn, and One Leg Stand Test) at the scene to which he failed all three tests, police said.

Vidale was transported to the Ancilmo Marshall Command Police Station where he submitted to a chemical test (breathalyzer) of his breath to determine his blood alcohol level, according to police.

Vidale’s alcohol level was above the legal content level and as a result, he was immediately arrested, police said.

The suspect was transported to the Police Operations Administrative Building, where he was booked and processed.

Vidale surrendered his Virgin Islands driver’s license to officers in lieu of bail.

He was scheduled for an advice-of-rights hearing in Superior Court at Kingshill today.
