St. Croix: Breezy, sunshine gives way to clouds, showers

CHRISTIANSTED —Today St. Croix will be breezy with some sunshine giving way to clouds; a couple of showers in the morning followed by a little rain in the afternoon and a high of 89, AccuWeather said.

Tonight St. Croix will experience partly cloudy conditions and a low of 76, according to AccuWeather.

A Saharan dust plume continues to affect the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, the National Weather Service said.

“Take precautions, especially for sensitive and vulnerable groups!” the NWS said on X. “There is a moderate risk of rip currents for the beaches of northern and eastern Puerto Rico and Saint Croix.”

John F. McCarthy is a veteran journalist in the Caribbean, writing from the "Decision Space" where survival meets the surreal. His reporting steel was tempered by a lineage of legendary editors and broadcasters, including Ed Wynn Brant (The Bomb), Owen Eschenroder (Ann Arbor News), Lynelle Emanuel (BVI Beacon), and Charles Thanas (WSVI-TV). Alongside longtime colleague Kenneth C. "Casey" Clark, McCarthy has navigated the front lines of the territory’s history—from the 1997 volcanic "snow" to every major hurricane since Hugo. Known for leaning out of doorless helicopters to capture the "money shot," McCarthy now edits the V.I. Free Press, providing the essential link between the island's colonial past and its SpaceX future.
