WAPA Cuts Power To 9,200 Customers on St. Croix Today; 4,100 On St. Thomas

CHRISTIANSTED — The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority said that 9,200 customers lost power on St. Croix today.

WAPA said four St. Croix estates were without electricity because “of a loss of generation capacity at the Estate Richmond power plant.”

“Plant personnel are working to rebuild capacity in order to restore service to the affected customers. Affected feeders include: 2A, 3A, 6A, and 10A,” WAPA said on Facebook.

WAPA also cut power to 4,100 customers on St. Thomas today starting at 5 a.m.

The authority said its crews were working in the Fort Mylner area to “reconfigure” the “electrical load on two feeders.”

Affected areas included: Wintberg, Nadir, Frydenhoj and Bovoni.

WAPA said the work was expected to be completed by 7 a.m. today.
