VIPD: Prisoner Arrested By Police After Homeowner Recognizes Him In Mugshot

FREDERIKSTED — A prisoner was arrested by police in Estate Golden Grove after a homeowner recognized him as the person who burglarized his home before he was an inmate, authorities said.

Wayne Burke, 18, an inmate at the Golden Grove Correctional Facility, was served with an arrest warrant for third-degree burglary at 12:18 p.m. on Friday, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

“Burke was identified as the individual who burglarized a residence in Estate Prosperity on January 24,” VIPD spokeman Toby Derima said.

Estate Prosperity is bounded by the Caribbean Sea to the west, Estate William to the north, Jolly Hill to the east and Estate La Grange to the south.

Bail for Burke was set at $40,000. He was unable to post bail, and he was remanded to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections pending his Advice of Rights hearing.
