JOHNNY HIDE YOUR GUN! Mapp Re-Issues Controversial Executive Order Re-Authorizing VING’s Ability To Snatch Guns From Law-Abiding Citizens

CHARLOTTE AMALIE – Gov. Kenneth Mapp has renewed a controversial executive order that authorized the scandal-plagued Virgin Islands National Guard (VING) to seize the firearms and ammunition of law-abiding Americans living in this U.S. territory and the larger Caribbean.

Mapp issed the declaration of a State of Emergency for the territory as an official order, Government House said in a written statement on Wednesday.

The proclamation renews the territory’s State of Emergency declaration, which was initially declared effective September 5, through January 4, 2018, unless earlier lifted or extended, according to Government House.

Mapp’s original executive order, issued ahead of hurricanes Irma and Maria in September, was roundly criticized by conservatives and conservative groups.

The National Rifle Association (NRA), for example, threatened litigation.

To this day, Mapp has claimed — repeatedly, including on the Fox News Channel with Tucker Carlson — that his executive order never authorized gun-grabbing even though it clearly did.

Instead of removing or even clarifying the gun-grabbing provision in his new executive order, he merely reauthorized it without correction or amplification.

A series of reports beginning in the 1990's revealed that there was everything from coliform bacteria to Cryptosporidium in locally-bottled St. Croix drinking water, according to a then-unpublished University of the Virgin Islands sampling. Another report, following Hurricane Hugo in 1989, cited a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) confidential overview that said that over 40 percent of the U.S. Virgin Islands public lives below the poverty line.
