DPW Says Buses You See On Roads This Month Are To Train New Bus Drivers … Not To Pick Up Riders

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — The Department of Public Works is advising the public, that while VITRAN’s Fixed Route service remains suspended, residents will notice buses on roadways starting April 20. The buses will be used for Mass Transit Bus Operator training purposes only and will continue until May 1.

VITRAN will continue to provide ADA Paratransit services to passengers traveling for dialysis and medical care.

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, VITRAN was forced to suspend its Fixed Route transportation services territory-wide, to protect its passengers and employees from the potential exposure to COVID-19.

The department is urging the community to take personal responsibility and practice good hygiene to reduce their risk of contracting and/or spreading the coronavirus.
