Virgin Islands Police Recover Guns, Drugs and Ammo From DUI Suspect’s Car

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — Virgin Islands police arrested a drunk driving suspect Thursday night and say they found “several unlicensed weapons,” ammo and illegal drugs in his car.

Rakhim M. Rabsatt, 31, of Bovoni, was arrested at 10:30 p.m. and charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm, possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, possession of ammunition, possession of a firearm within 1,000 feet of a school zone-housing community, driving under the influence, and illegal blood alcohol content, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

During a traffic stop on Raphune Hill, Rabsatt failed a Standardized Field Sobriety Test, according to the VIPD.

“Although Rabsatt admitted to possessing a licensed firearm, officers also discovered several unlicensed weapons and containers of a green leafy substance which field-tested positive for marijuana in his vehicle,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said.

Bail for Rabsatt was set at $50,000. Unable to post bail, he was turned over to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections, pending his Advice of Rights hearing.

St. Thomas-St. John-Water Island District Police Chief Barrington Thomas, Sr. commented on the arrest.

“This is all part of our ongoing traffic stop initiative and it will continue,” Chief Thomas said.
