CHRISTIANSTED — Police are investigating after a 33-year-old man was shot and killed near the Christiansted Cemetery late last night, authorities said.
A 911 dispatcher got a report at 11:58 p.m. Tuesday of “shots fired and a man down on Peter’s Farm Road in Christiansted,” the Virgin Islands Police Department said.
Responding officers found an unresponsive Hispanic male with multiple gunshot wounds, according to the VIPD.
Emergency Medical Technicians on the scene were unable to find any signs of life, police said.
Angel Casanova was positively identified by a family member as the homicide victim, VIPD spokeswoman Kishma Chichester said.
“He was shot multiple times to the upper body while he was sitting in his vehicle,” Chichester revealed.
The death brings the total number of homicides reported in the territory so far this year to 39, including 21 on St. Thomas and 18 on St. Croix.
