CHARLOTTE AMALIE — It’s a lot easier to get to St. Thomas from Minnesota now that Delta Air Lines has launched its newest Caribbean route.
The new Minneapolis-St. Paul to St, Thomas route is operating three times a week, with flights on and Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, according to Delta’s website.
The first flight to Cyril E. King Airport landed in St. Thomas on December 23.
“Airlift expansion is an important part of our marketing strategy, and it was our pleasure to welcome the inaugural Delta flight from Minneapolis to St. Thomas,” Tourism Commissioner Joseph Boshculte said.
Even amid the current challenges for the global tourism industry, the U.S. Virgin Islands has been experiencing an airlift expansion.
In the fall, JetBlue Airways launched a new route from New York to St Thomas, while United Airlines launched a new route from Newark to St Thomas in September, among other new additions.
St Croix, too, is seeing new airlift from a number of carriers.
The territory is currently open for tourism business; you can find more on the U.S. Virgin Islands’s COVID-19 entry protocols here.
Delta Air Lines is based in Atlanta, Georgia.
