CHRISTIANSTED — Governor Albert Bryan Jr. will testify virtually before the U.S. House Committee on Natural Resources at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 24.
Governor Bryan, as well as the Governors of all the U.S. territories, will appear via Zoom to discuss President Biden’s “Build Back Better” plan and how the federal initiative can specifically provide support to the U.S. Virgin Islands to achieve the program’s goals.
The Congressional hearing will look at the U.S. Territories’ economic growth, which has contracted or remained flat for decades, in part because these jurisdictions have experienced a series of catastrophic natural disasters. Additionally, territorial governments historically have not prioritized maintenance-planning and budgeting, life cycle costing analysis and training, which has resulted in the usefulness of power plants, roads, ports, water and sewer systems and public buildings declining prematurely.
Governor Bryan will be testifying about the critical need for the U.S. Territories to secure funding under the “Build Back Better” plan to address long-ignored needs, as the recovery from the 2017 hurricanes remains underway.
The House committee hearing begins at 10 a.m.and will be live on Facebook.com/GovernmentHouseUSVI; NaturalResources.House.gov and the House Natural Resources Committee YouTube channel.
